Equine Veterinary FAQs

What areas does Harbour Ridge Equine serve?

Our ambulatory veterinarians travel throughout the Treasure Coast and northern Palm Beach County, including Palm City, Jupiter Farms, Caloosa, Palm Beach Gardens, Hobe Sound, Indiantown, Vero Beach, and Fort Pierce. Horses from outside our ambulatory area are welcome to haul in to our clinic in Palm City.

Do you offer farm calls, or do I need to bring my horse to the clinic?

Both. Many exams and treatments can be performed at your farm, and our purpose-built clinic in Palm City is available for haul-in appointments, advanced diagnostics, sterile procedures, and hospitalization.

Do you provide emergency veterinary care for horses?

Yes. We provide emergency care for our established clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If your horse has an emergency, call our main number at (561) 744-9026.

What should I do if I think my horse has colic?

Call us right away. Remove access to feed, keep your horse in a safe area where you can observe them, and do not give any medication unless a veterinarian instructs you to. Note your horse’s behavior, gum color, and manure output so you can share it with our team.

What are your office hours?

Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and is closed on Saturday and Sunday. To schedule an appointment, please call us during regular business hours.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Call our office at (561) 744-9026 during business hours, or use the appointment request on our website and a member of our team will follow up with you.

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes. We welcome new clients and their horses. On your first visit we will take a complete medical history, and your previous veterinarian can fax records to us at (772) 283-8296.

What services does Harbour Ridge Equine offer?

We offer lameness and sports medicine, equine reproduction for mares and stallions, advanced dentistry, internal medicine, preventative medicine, surgery, dermatology, ophthalmology, pre-purchase examinations, laminitis management, and equine chiropractic.

How often should my horse have a wellness exam?

Most horses benefit from at least one comprehensive wellness visit per year, which is an ideal time for vaccinations, a dental exam, a Coggins test, and a fecal egg count. Senior horses, performance horses, and horses with ongoing health concerns may need more frequent visits.

Which vaccines does my horse need in South Florida?

Vaccines commonly recommended in South Florida include Eastern and Western Encephalitis, West Nile Virus, Tetanus, Rabies, Influenza, Equine Herpes Virus, and Strangles. We follow AAEP guidelines and tailor each horse’s plan to their lifestyle and travel.

Can you run a Coggins test quickly before a show or trip?

Yes. Our in-house Coggins lab offers routine testing as well as emergency testing with a one-hour turnaround. Call us as early as possible so we can plan around your travel dates.

How often does my horse need a dental exam?

We recommend an oral examination at least once a year. Horses can develop sharp enamel points, hooks, and other dental problems before they show obvious trouble eating.

Do you perform pre-purchase exams for buyers outside your local area?

Yes. Our team travels as far south as Wellington and as far north as Ocala for pre-purchase examinations, and a written report is provided to the buyer.

Can my horse stay at your clinic for treatment or rehabilitation?

Yes. Our fully air-conditioned barn has extra-large matted stalls for inpatients and haul-in cases, and we have fenced pasture turnout for patients who need it.

Do you breed mares and collect stallions at your facility?

Yes. Our air-conditioned breeding shed is attached to our laboratory, allowing us to collect, evaluate, cool-ship, or freeze semen on site. We also offer mare reproductive management, artificial insemination, and embryo transfer.

Do you offer equine chiropractic care?

Yes. Our certified veterinarian provides equine chiropractic, also called veterinary medical manipulation, including gait analysis, a full joint and muscle assessment, gentle adjustments, and a complimentary saddle fit assessment.

Can you work with my farrier on lameness or laminitis cases?

Absolutely. We work closely with your farrier, using radiographs and our clinical findings to help guide trimming and shoeing decisions for the best possible outcome.

Where can I find forms to complete before my appointment?

Downloadable and online forms are available on our Forms page. Completed forms can be emailed to us or faxed to (772) 283-8296.
