Breeding Soundness and Fertility Management
A breeding soundness examination evaluates your stallion’s reproductive anatomy, libido, and semen quality, including concentration, motility, and morphology. For sub-fertile stallions, our veterinarians develop management strategies to improve semen quality and maximize the number of mares that can be bred successfully.

Can my stallion be collected and his semen frozen?
Yes. However, a stallion that has never been collected before requires initial collection training and a baseline semen evaluation. After that, we perform a test-freeze. Keep in mind that there is great variation between stallions, but roughly 70% of stallions produce sperm that survives the freezing and thawing process with acceptable post-thaw motility.
What is a breeding soundness exam for a stallion?
It is an evaluation of the stallion’s physical health, reproductive anatomy, breeding behavior, and semen quality to determine his breeding potential.
